North West Hospital - New Dual Unified Primary and Secondary Power Infrastructure

Key Features
Prior Load Monitoring and subsequent power analysis revealed spare capacity negating the need for a new primary substation 
Energy Efficiency was Key - Air Source Heat Pumps were used switch room heating and Engine Block Heating along with 
Amorphous Core Low Loss 1600kVA Distribution Transformer having only a 630W no load loss.
Active Harmonic Filtration equipment provided anti-phase correction to the inverter rich load resulting in a reduction of harmonic load losses
A parallel Theatre refurbishment and extension project require early 'Resilient Power On' dates to be achieved
A compact area and live hospital environment posed significant challenges to the construction time and the migration of existing critical supplies to the new 
infrastructure.

​NORTH WEST University - New Medical School 


Sigma RJ were appointed to provide full Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health Services Design for the new medical school at Edge Hill University

The Facility was successfully completed comprising of:


12 permanent OSCE rooms
ward areas (adult and paediatric)
maternity delivery suite
operating theatre
A&E
triage areas which will include Paramedic access
resuscitation areas
laboratory rooms (wet labs and fully operational kitchens),
pharmacy room
simulation debriefing rooms
immersive technology suite
permanent spaces for clinical learning including practical procedures
reception area


North West University - Refurbishment of the Existing Library into Law and Psychology

Fast track refurbishment of the existing Library incorporating Sigma RJ Ltd undertook Lighting, Power, Data, Automatic Fire Detection and Emergency Voice Communication system design

 Fast Track Ward Refurbishment 

  • Sigma RJ undertook Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health services design for a number of fast track ward refurbishments with services including, domestic water services, drainage, heating, ventilation, small power, self testing emergency lighting, lighting, medical trunking, automatic fire detection, data and medical gases.

specialist  Hospital 


Sigma RJ undertook specialist design of the 400V mains power and installation of a new Low Voltage switchboard with dual automatic essential incomers with bypass. The purpose of the project was to provide a resilient power system supplying new and existing catheterisation labs with complete replacement of the existing switchgear.


  Management School



Working with one of the North West's Largest Electrical Contractors SRJ Ltd completed the Design and Building Information Modelling of the associated Electrical Services; Primary Electricity Supplies, 400/230V Sub mains distribution, Protection Selectivity/Discrimination Study, Photovoltaic Array, Lighting and Emergency Lighting, Small Power, Data and Audio Visual Wiring, Power supplies to Mechanical Services, Intruder Alarm and IP CCTV.

The building has been designed and constructed to BREEAM Excellent standards and delivered to BIM Level 2.
